LAGOS STATE GOVERNMEN INAGURATES ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR STATE POLICING

In his efforts to ensure adequate security in the state , Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu governor of Lagos state has inaugurated the state community policing advisory committee ( SCPAC) and its operations arm State community policing committee ( SCPC) at the state house Alausa Ikeja on June 3rd 2020 stating the commitment of his administration towards adequate security for life and prosperity of the people through community policing in the state.
The governor emphasised that the security reform in these state is long overdue and the event is a turning point for his administration deliberate efforts to re-strategise and
rethìnk the secùrity architecture using community policing initiative as proposed by Inspector General of police ( IGP) Mr Muhammed Abubakar Adamu.
" In a democracy, the involvement of the people in all matters of governance especially on issues that have impact on their well-being is key to achieving good governance "
The governor explained further that one of the inadequacies of the current policing system in the state is the inability to tap the knowledge and intelligence that exists at neigbourhood and communal level stating that technological equipment of police with modern gadget would go a long way to curb criminal activities but such technology cant be substituted with mutual trust and cooperation between the police and members of their host communities .
He thanked president Muhammad Buhari for his unequivocal support for foundermental security reforms in Nigeria .
SCPAC is co chaired by the commisioner of police Mr Hakeem Odumosu and Chairman of council of Obas Obas and chiefs in Lagos Oba Rilwan Akinolu will be the custodian of the initiative and is to maintain highest level of oversight on community policing in the state.
