EDO ELECTION : MATTER ARISING

*EDO ELECTION RESULT SHOULD UNDERGO THE TEST OF ELECTORAL LAW*

23rd Sept.2020

 _Adewale Ajibola reports_

In any sporting activities or competition  participants are subjected to rules and regulations which gives each and everyone a satisfied mind after each tournament when champions have emerged.
In reference to the above in Edo state election there is no doubt that the election has been concluded and Governor Obaseki of pdp has been declared as the winner having won majority of the votes but did the candidates and parties in the election played to Nigeria  electoral laws ?
In the recent past in Nigeria, supreme courts has nullified and reversed some election simply because the candidates or the parties  compromised on the rules that governed the electoral process .
Examples of this are elections  held in the following states  zamfara, Bayelsa , Imo , Bauch etc which has re-shaped our democratic institutions .
Edo state  election should be tested under the electoral act to further strengthen our democracy; hypocrisy, hatred and what have you should be put aside to jointly build a strong political institution for everyone .
There are many issue which requires the interpretation of electoral law which was noticed and glaring in the build up to the election such as ,can a person contest or obtain nomination forms  from different political parties in the same election ? Results presented by candidates etc  If Nigeria must be great we must all work and think together to get it right.
The All progressive Congress and the candidate should prosecute the outcome of the result  through election tribunal, appeal court , supreme court to further enrich Nigeria electoral system and guide for participant in political activities .

We need to reason together and make our country great.
Kudos to Independent National Electoral commission for the good conduct of the election and the electorate for their determination to  shun violence and vote for their preferred candidate.
We must also remember that election victory is not yet over until the period of appeal is over or the courts makes its pronouncement on the result. If we are truely a Democrat we should have this in our minds most times irrespective of the election result.
God Bless Nigeria
