Lagos state government negligence in supervision of her policies
LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT NEGLIGENCE IN SUPERVISION OF HER POLICIES
Babajide Razak Dada
Our heart goes to the family of the deceased Doctor at Lagos owned Hospital and prayed an eternal rest for her but this was just one of the numerous negligence by the state government due to lack of supervision on many of her policies for good governance .
Kudos, the government awarded contracts and come up with policies but do the government have effective supervision and report methodology? Roads construction and infrastructural development every where but who monitors and report quality of job and the time frame of completion ? Collapse and construction of buildings at every nooks and crannies of the state without effective check of the corruption and manipulations by staffs of the agency and proactive steps to avoid disaster before we are grief ? There are insinuations that there are several complains on the faulty lift that led to the death of the doctor at Lagos owned Hospital which wasn't given prominent attention until disaster stucked like many of dead traps on our roads that had resulted to grid lock traffick and shops for robbers . Drainages are distiled but evacuations are left beside it to later fall back , some of the pedestrian bridges are becoming habitat for criminals making people to abandoned it for usage etc
Last week , the garages and park the state agency responsible with motor garages control in the state announced palliatives and subsequent 25% reduction on transport fares and #200 reduction in the #800 levy paid at the park ignoring other illegal fees paid at the park and every bus stops and parks on the road . Some of the commercial drivers our reporters interacted with claimed the policy was just a dress rehearsal as major issues which would make them complied are ignored, they lamented how difficult is for them to have a take home earlier than any working class to meet their target after paying all kinds of exhortation fees to park and garages officials , touts at every bustop and traffic agencies on the roads who has seen them as milk cow everyday and the high cost of fuel, they also demanded the government to explained if their was law or edict that makes it mandatory for them to pay fee for picking or alighting at any bustop but this has been ignored for long .
One wonder how many commercial drivers complied with this order and stand to be corrected if the policy was ever effected in any part of the state as some of the commercial drivers ignored and still charged exhorbitant fees leaving commuters with no choice than paid the high transport fares or treck distances .
Lagos state government should rise up with actions that would convince the populace that government is actually walking her talk. The yet to be appointed commissioner for transport should be someone who is versertile in management and understand the true feelings and reality of transport situation , the yet to be constituted state exco should devote time not only to initiate policies but effective supervision and monitoring of such policies to achieve result and prosect any one found wanting . The civil service is due for overhauling for effectiveness and rejuvenating
There is no doubt that the current economy situations is bitting hard on Nigerians and goes beyond palliatives theory without effectiveness and achieving the desire result
Governor Sanwo-Olu and Lagos state House of Assembly as a matter of urgency should rise up and give Lagos residents high sense of renewed hope of a better society by walking her numerous talk of a new rising Lagos .
