A mirror of Nigeria @63
NIGERIA @63 A TIME FOR SOBER REFLECTION
Report by Dada Babajide Razak
Today marks the independence celebration of a nation full of hopes and aspirations by the colonial masters of Great Britain as the independence was granted to the most populace nation of black race with pageants and celebrations.
Sixty-three years after, the nation has continued to wobble and crawl like infants with abundant resources at her disposal coupled with bad leadership, mismanagement, and quest for political powers and corruption.
The reality of Nigeria's economy today was like a nation in the wilderness brought upon her through self-inflicted injuries.
In the fifties, Nigeria stood tall, shoulders high with developing nations of the world, then came the military who lacked the mentality of civil governance, supported by civilians who never believed the world is just a transient place and six feet would end every journey.
Amidst this, comes a civilian regime with high expectations of civilized society but alas, corruption and ethnicity raised its ugly head into our society and the rolling stone of peace and tranquility becomes a mirage.
A once rich economy becomes the headquarters of poverty of the world, the majority of the citizenry becomes poorer and few become affluence super rich and poverty becomes a tool of manipulation in the hands of the rich.
Our political institutions become a shadow itself and citizens become skeptical of the sincerity of elected officials leading to the present political quagmire
A time of celebration turns to a moment of sober reflection, the new president of the nation president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a huge task ahead of him in finding ways to tackle the enormous challenges with the right solutions and policies.
Nigerians seem to have lost the temperament of patience as virtually the cost of living has skyrocketed and expect immediate miracles without an ear and vision to wait a moment for seeds planted to germinate.
We have no other country than this nation, let's shun ethnicity bigotry, hatred, corruption, etc., and rebuild our nation together. The election would always come and go but our nation is bigger than any individual, group, or political party. Nigeria would be great again.
By God grace, I hope at the next independence celebration we will have a different and positive story to tell. Nigeria would be great again and our nation of plenty of goodies would have been a place of happiness for all.
Happy Independence
