SHOGUNLE SPORTS FESTIVAL: A DISPLAY OF TALENTS

The Shogunle Sports Festival 2024 officially commenced on December 8, 2024, at Temidire Primary School, showcasing an exciting array of athletic talent alongside a vibrant atmosphere filled with fun and artistic displays.
The event featured a special guest of honor, Hon. Atewogboye Banji (Skibanj), the Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Grassroots Sports. He commended the organizers for their commendable initiative, which aims to foster brotherhood and love within the community. Hon. Banji encouraged participants to use the festival as a platform for unity and to express love among neighbors, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing camaraderie over competition and urging everyone to avoid any actions that could disrupt the spirit of the matches.
In a generous gesture, he donated playing beeps for participating teams and promised a token for the winner of the opening match, which was fulfilled with a presentation at the end of the match.
Comrade Oluwatosin Fatoki, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the dignitaries present and the large turnout at the kickoff of the competition. He promised that more fun awaits everyone for the next match, scheduled for December 15th, inviting the community to come together again for an exciting continuation of the festival.
The Shogunle Sports Festival promises to be a memorable event, fostering not only sportsmanship but also community spirit and unity.
In an exciting opening match of the 4-a-side competition, Sake Fabukade triumphed over Bello Ladipo team, coming back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime to secure a final score of 4-2. The match showcased a flurry of action, with six goals scored in just 50 minutes, highlighting the competitive spirit of the tournament.
Hon.Uche Monye who grew up in the community emphasized the significance of the sports fiesta organized solely by a youth in the community , viewing it as a vital reminder to the Local Government authority and other political office holders about the community's pressing need for recreational facilities and green playing fields across the seven wards of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government.
Monye urged private businesses and community leaders to step forward and support initiatives that can elevate the community's image and provide essential recreational spaces for residents. This type of engagement not only fosters local talent and spirit but also projects a positive image of the community to the wider world.
Jamiu of Saka Fabukade team is the current tournament highest goal scorer with four goals having scored all the goals for his team while Gedemu and Bolu had one goal each for Ladipo Bello team and out of the competition which is on a knockout rule
