Skate Lagos second edition: Stars Emerge as Government Backs Grassroots Sports Initiative

The Lagos State government's commitment to sports development was vividly on display, with the Skate Lagos second edition held at national stadium on 27th May 2025.
Mr. Atewogboye Adebanji Adeoye, the Special Senior Advisor to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, extended heartfelt gratitude for the Governor's unwavering dedication to nurturing talent and identifying future champions across all sporting disciplines, with a particular focus on skateboarding. He highlighted the tangible impact of this support, citing the state's impressive participation in events like the Skate-thon in Calabar 2025 and the Gateway Games, where skaters secured medals and cash prizes. Building on this momentum, the state is poised to compete in another exciting competition in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Reinforcing the government's commitment to grassroots sports, Adeoye reiterated their dedication to the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda, which focuses on the discovery of future sporting stars. Earlier in the day, Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, implored the youth to channel their energy into self-discovery, especially through sports, and to avoid antisocial behavior. He assured the participants of the Lagos State government's unwavering support in helping them achieve their dreams of stardom and representing the state and the nation.
The competition itself was a showcase of incredible skill and athleticism, captivating spectators with its energy. In the thrilling speed event, Abiodun Adeniran, sporting tag 259, clinched the title of Best Male Skater, earning a prize of ₦250,000. Kadejo Arafat triumphed in the female category, also taking home ₦250,000. Other standout performances included Omene Daniel, who dominated the men's free jump, and Thank God Emmanuella, who took the crown in the women's free jump, both receiving ₦50,000. Victories were also celebrated in a variety of other categories, including speed skating for kids (male & female) and slalom speed, further demonstrating the breadth of talent on display.
This year's edition was a resounding success, filled with fun, excitement, and an unprecedented turnout. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Hon. Kehinde Bakare (SSA Grassroots Empowerment), Hon. Oluwadamilare Orimoloye (SSA Sports), Hon. (Amb.) Tijani Shared (SSA Wealth Creation), Hon. Onaopepo Adu (SSA Sports Marketing and Management), Hon. Toyin Aremu (SSA Transportation), Hon. Ruth Lijirin, and a host of other dignitaries, solidifying the event's significance and impact
