Blackout Blues: Oshodi-Isolo LG Communities Demand Action on Recurring Power Failures

Residents of Shogunle, Ladipo, Ewu, Igbehinadun, Ogunoloko, and surrounding areas within Oshodi-Isolo Local Government are experiencing persistent power outages. These blackouts occur every two months, leaving the community in darkness for a minimum of five days, with no prior notification.

The economic impact is significant, as most residents are petty traders and artisans who rely on electricity for their daily livelihoods. We urgently appeal to the local government authority, the SA on Community, the SSA on Community Engagement, the Community Development Associations (CDAs) of the affected communities, and the Oshodi CDC Chairman to intervene and find lasting solutions.

The community deserves clear information regarding these regular blackouts and a plan to end them rather than being left in uncertainty. We also express our disappointment with the lack of action from the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company staff, who continue to provide poor and erratic service yet come to neighbourhood with ladders to disconnect and forced people to pay for service not rendered .

We again urge the CDC and CDA Chairmen to fulfil their responsibilities and advocate for a permanent solution with the local government authority
