The 1xCup2025 served up drama, tension, and unforgettable moments today at the Inspire Sports Arena, as defending champions FC Bethel Sporting crashed out in shocking fashion against Vinmo Energy FC.


In the second game of the day, both sides fought fiercely but could not break the deadlock, finishing 0–0 at full time. The penalty shootout, however, turned the Arena into a cauldron of nerves. Fans gasped as Bethel Sporting, the reigning champions, faltered—scoring just one of their three spot-kicks. Vinmo Energy kept their cool, converting four flawless penalties to seal their place in the quarter-finals, leaving the champions stunned and eliminated.

Earlier, in the opening clash, Dosu Joseph FC completed their revenge mission with a nail-biting penalty victory over Utility Sports FC. After a pulsating 1–1 draw in regulation time, Dosu Joseph triumphed 6–5 in the shootout, sending their jubilant fans into wild celebration.




With the group stage wrapped up, the stage is now set for the quarter-finals showdown. The eight gladiators ready to battle for semi-final tickets are: Natt Boys, Community Gunners, Ikorodu City FC, Emaljus FC, ISAGT FC, Dosu Joseph FC, Inspire FC, and Vinmo Energy FC.

Competition CEO, Waheed Akanni—ex Super Eagles star and former Lagos FA Chairman—praised the excitement so far and revealed that new jerseys for the quarter-finalists will be unveiled on Monday, September 22, at Inspire Sports Arena. He further encouraged fans to follow the action via live telecasts on the tournament’s YouTube channel.

The quarter-final clashes are slated for September 23rd & 24th at Inspire Sports Arena, with kick-off times following the established schedule. With ₦20 million in prize money and electrifying football on display, fans are guaranteed thrills, entertainment, and maximum security at the Arena.
