 Rain, Goals and Drama as 1xCup2025 Group Stage Wraps Up at Inspire Sports Arena



It was a dramatic close to the group stage of the 1xCup2025 yesterday at the Inspire Sports Arena, Cappa, where a light drizzle set the stage for a day packed with thrills and tension.

In Group A’s concluding clash, Community Gunners FC turned on the style with a commanding 4–0 victory over Africano FC, stamping their superiority against the group’s whipping boys. The win pushed Community Gunners to 7 points, level with Natt Boys, but goal difference handed Natt Boys the edge with 10 goals to the Gunners’ 9. Collins Edewin FC followed closely on 6 points to remain in the hunt for a wild card, while 36 Lions (5 pts) and Africano (1 pt) bowed out.


The second game of the day saw Emaljus FC and Young Strikers battle to a hard-fought 1–1 draw in Group B. Ikorodu FC remained on top with 8 points to claim the group’s quarter-final ticket. Behind them, G. Innovation FC and Emaljus FC (5 pts each) nudged past Young Strikers on goal difference, keeping their hopes alive for a wild card slot.



In Group D, Vinmo Energy FC needed a win to topple Inspire FC from the summit, but their clash with FC Bethel Sporting ended in a tense 1–1 draw. That result cemented Inspire FC’s place in the quarter-finals, while Vinmo Energy (8 pts) and Bethel Sporting will have to battle through the wild card route.

Over in Group C, the action had already wrapped up, with ISAGT FC leading the charge into the quarter-finals with 7 points. Utility FC (4 pts) and Dosu Joseph FC (3 pts) also remain in contention via the wild card chase.

Speaking after the games, the CEO of 1xCup2025 praised the sportsmanship and determination shown by all participating teams. He confirmed that fixtures for the wild card matches would be released today, September 10, with all fixtures set to conclude next week—clearing the path for what promises to be an epic quarter-final showdown.
