Lagos APC Refutes Allegations of Chairman's Harassment During Protest

Lagos APC Debunks Claims of Chairman's Harassment During Secretariat Protest

By DD Media Insight

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that its chairman was assaulted or harassed during Tuesday's protest at the party's state secretariat, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Lagos APC Chairman, Ayaba Akingbehin, the party clarified that the chairman was not present at the secretariat when the protest took place and, therefore, could not have been involved in any altercation as alleged in a viral social media video.

The party acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens and members to peacefully express their grievances but emphasized that such actions must be conducted within the confines of the law and with due regard for public order and party discipline.

According to the statement, the recently concluded primary elections have provided room for internal mechanisms through which aggrieved members can seek redress. The APC urged dissatisfied party faithful to channel their complaints through the established structures rather than resorting to actions capable of escalating tension within the party.

The statement further appealed to members and stakeholders to remain calm and avoid comments or conduct that could misrepresent the facts or create unnecessary divisions.

"Our attention has been drawn to a video currently circulating on social media concerning the protest at the APC Secretariat. We wish to state categorically that the Party Chairman was neither molested nor harassed at any point during the incident. In fact, he was not present at the secretariat when the event occurred," the statement said.

It added that while the party respects lawful expressions of grievances, all members are expected to uphold the principles of discipline and unity, especially after the completion of the primary election process.

The APC also called on the public, party supporters and media organisations to disregard what it described as misleading narratives and rely only on official communication channels for verified information regarding the incident.
