The much-anticipated 2026 1xBet Cup officially got underway at the Inspire Sports Arena, Cappa, Lagos, with 100 grassroots football clubs beginning their quest for the coveted ₦20 million grand prize.

The competition opens with a knockout qualifying phase, scheduled to run from July 23 to September 4, 2026, after which 24 successful teams will advance to the group stage, which kicks off on September 11, 2026.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Waheed Akanni (MON), Chief Executive Officer of 1xBet Cup, explained that all 100 participating teams would compete in the knockout qualifiers before the remaining 24 clubs progress to the group stage.

He revealed that the qualified teams would be drawn into six groups of four teams each, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the knockout rounds.

Akanni further disclosed that four matches will be played daily every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with the first kick-off scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

He added that beyond the increased prize money for this year's champions, football fans should expect an exciting tournament atmosphere filled with entertainment, giveaways, and memorable experiences throughout the competition.

The 1xBet Cup CEO also called on lovers of grassroots football to troop out in large numbers to support the competition, especially residents of Oshodi, Mushin, Ilupeju, Idi-Oro, Yaba, Mafoluku, Ladipo, Onipanu, and neighbouring communities.

Inspire SC Open Campaign with Victory

The opening fixture of the tournament saw Inspire SC edge Da Faria FC by a lone goal in an entertaining contest.

 Although Inspire SC missed a penalty in the second half, they held on to secure the first victory of the 2026 edition.

Agboloaje Fawaz was deservedly named Man of the Match following an outstanding performance that showcased his exceptional skill, creativity, and influence throughout the encounter.
