  40,000 APC Supporters Flood Liberty Stadium As TTB Launches Grassroots Mobilization For President Tinubu

Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was on Monday August 31st, 2027 engulfed in a wave of political enthusiasm as thousands of supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu converged on the historic Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, popularly known as Liberty Stadium, for the formal inauguration of the Oyo State chapter of the Tinubu Torch Bearers (TTB).

From the early hours of the morning, the atmosphere around the stadium was electric, as APC supporters drawn from the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State arrived in colourful Ankara outfits, waving party insignia and expressing their support for President Tinubu's re-election 

By 8 a.m., virtually all the gates leading into the main bowl of the stadium had been opened to accommodate the steady stream of enthusiastic supporters.

By mid-day, the expansive stadium was almost filled to capacity, with organisers putting the crowd at over 40,000 people.

The gathering attracted a broad spectrum of Oyo society, including professional groups, religious leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, artisans, market women, people living with disabilities, ethnic nationalities and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The Tinubu Torch Bearers (TTB) is a women-led grassroots mobilisation and advocacy platform within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Launched by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in June 2026, the initiative is designed to promote the policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda while strengthening grassroots support for President Tinubu's 2027 presidential re-election campaign across Nigeria's 774 local government areas.

However, the large number of women and supporters who had gathered in anticipation of catching a glimpse of the First Lady were left disappointed when Senator Oluremi Tinubu was unavoidably absent from the event.

She was represented by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who delivered the First Lady's message to the people of Oyo State.

In her address, the First Lady reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to the advancement, empowerment and inclusion of women in governance and national development.

She also assured the people of Oyo State that their interests remain a priority of the Tinubu administration.

Also speaking at the event, the Oyo State APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, urged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to align the state with the Federal Government by voting massively for President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Alli said such political alignment would enable Oyo State to benefit more from the various initiatives of the Renewed Hope administration, which he described as transforming communities across the country.

One of the major highlights of the inauguration was the symbolic lighting of the TTB torches.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, alongside members of the TTB entourage, mounted the podium and lit the torches in a colourful demonstration symbolizing the group's message of bringing light, hope and transformation to communities across Oyo State.

The symbolic gesture was presented as a representation of the transition from darkness to the illuminating promise of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Earlier in the day, the First Lady's delegation, led by Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland and Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja.

The monarch warmly received the delegation in Ibadan and offered his royal blessing for the group's mission and activities in the state.

The inauguration attracted several prominent political leaders, traditional and community stakeholders, and influential personalities.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the APC National Women Leader and TTB Convener, Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Alile Idele; two-term Minister, Chief (Mrs.) Akande Onikepo; former Oyo State First Lady, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwakemi Alao-Akala; Oyo State APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli; his running mate, Dr. Adesoji Adedeji; Oyo North senatorial candidate, Hannah Ogunesan; and prominent Ibadan businessman and philanthropist, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, Chairman of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort.

With the inauguration of the Tinubu Torch Bearers in Oyo State, the APC has added another grassroots mobilisation platform to its political machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
