 Lagos Gears Up for Credible Local Government Elections: LASIEC Promises Transparency, New Polling Booths

With the much-anticipated local government elections in Lagos State fast approaching, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has reassured residents of its commitment to conducting credible and transparent elections. LASIEC Chairman, Honourable Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile, highlighted the commission's efforts to improve electoral processes, including the provision of additional polling booths to ensure a smooth voting experience. 

During a recent courtesy visit to the Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Justice Okikiolu Ighile emphasized LASIEC's dedication to delivering a fair and efficient election. The visit was met with enthusiasm from the Council Chairman, Hon. Gbenu Henugbe Joseph, who pledged the local government's full support in ensuring a peaceful and well-organized election.  

Justice Ighile, who has resided in Badagry for three years, reaffirmed LASIEC's proactive approach to upholding electoral integrity. "We are putting a lot of machinery in motion to ensure the success of the elections. The notice will be out soon, and our guidelines will also be released shortly," she announced. "By the grace of God, the election will hold this year as planned," she assured. This statement highlights LASIEC's commitment to transparency and providing voters with timely information.

This development signals LASIEC's commitment to transparency and inclusivity in the electoral process. With the Lagos State House of Assembly also set to amend the LASIEC Law to curb electoral malpractice and rigging, the commission is poised to deliver a free, fair, and credible local government election.

The upcoming elections are crucial for the future of Lagos State's local government. They represent an opportunity for residents to choose their representatives and shape the direction of their communities. One of the key challenges facing the elections is ensuring a high voter turnout, particularly among younger generations. The potential for voter apathy is a concern, as is the need to address any potential security risks.  

The elections will also be a platform for addressing critical local issues, including infrastructural development, waste management, and community safety. Candidates are expected to focus on these concerns and present their plans to improve the quality of life for residents.  

LASIEC's commitment to transparency and fairness is essential to ensure that these elections are conducted with integrity and that the voices of the people are heard. The commission's efforts to streamline the electoral process and provide additional polling booths are positive steps towards achieving these goals. However, it's important to remain vigilant and ensure that all stakeholders are involved in creating a fair and inclusive election environment.

BREAKING: Ondo State Gov. Aiyedatiwa’s Campaign Coordinator Assassinated By Babajide Razak Dada Alaba Excel Abbey, one of the campaign coordinators of incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state, has been assassinated. Mr Abbey, who served as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), was killed at his home in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area. According to news on social media  the deceased was the returning officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 in the recently concluded primary of the governing party.
